What we need to know about assistance dog legislation

Vaggelis Avgoulas is a lawyer specializing in Civil Law, President of the NPO “Me Alla Matia” (With Other Eyes) and a Regular Representative of the International Organization VIEWS in Greece, supporting young people with visual impairments.

Vaggelis Avgoulas, prosecuting lawyer in the case, talks about the landmark decision of the Single Member Misdemeanor Court of Athens in the conviction of a licensed taxi driver who refused service to a young blind woman and her guide dog. Despite having being shown the legislation and the dog’s certification, the driver still refused to follow the law. Vaggelis discusses the legal regulations for assistance dogs and how social dialogue is imperative so that the wider public recognizes which laws must be applied.
